OUR COACHES – 2023/24


Our coaches are committed to providing the best possible experience for our players.

Our coaches are current and former accomplished water polo players with a passion for the sport.  Most of them have trained as coaches, lifeguards and swim instructors.

Taylor Laine – 18U Coach

Taylor is thrilled to be back at Lions for her 7th season coaching the 17U/19U division, and is even more excited to be celebrating her 10th season coaching at Lions! She has experience in all avenues of water polo coaching including recreational, BCSSA and the competitive level. She is also involved with creating changes to water polo rules/policy. She is looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces on the pool deck and having fun with all the athletes, volunteers and coaches this season!

Luna Lim – 13U Coach

Luna has been playing water-polo since the age of 11 and has been coaching with the Coquitlam Lions Water Polo club for over 7 years. She looks forward to continuing to work with some of our club’s youngest players in the 13U division and introduce them to the wonders of water polo.

Yu-Xing Lim – 18U Coach

Xing started his water polo career as a Coquitlam Lions Cub at the age of 7. This season will be his 13th season with the club. He is super excited to be coaching this season and to share his passion for water polo with everyone.

Yu-Heng Lim – 15U Coach

Coach Heng has been coaching the 15U division for the past three seasons. This season is Coach Heng’s 13th year with Coquitlam Lions. Having played in both the community and competitive leagues, he is excited to share his experiences. He is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics at SFU.

Ethan Benoit – 15U Coach

Ethan started playing water polo with the Haney Neptunes when he was 8 years old and then moved on to high performance with Fraser Valley Water polo until he was 16, where he achieved a western national gold medal with his u14 team. Ethan began coaching in 2019 with the Langley Otters, however it was short lived with the pandemic coming shortly after he started. He picked coaching back up in 2022 with Fraser Valley as the Head Coach of their development program. Ethan coached Coquitlam lions over the past fall/winter season and went to Burnaby to Head Coach over the summer. Ethan currently holds a private pilots license and a floatplane rating. He is working towards his commercial licence and hopes to fly on the airlines sometime soon.

Kim Pereira – 13U Coach

Kim started playing water polo with Coquitlam Lions when she was 11 years old and for the past five years, she has loved her experience in the sport. After a year of playing recreational water polo, she joined a high-performance team called Pacific Storm. After challenging herself on that team for four years, Kim has decided to play for the Lions again. She cannot wait to have an amazing season with the payers and hopes she can make them appreciate the sports as much as she does!

Emma Andrusiw – 9U/11U Coach

This is Emma’s 2nd year coaching with the Coquitlam Lions and she is super excited to continue working with 9U and 11U groups. Emma started her water polo career with the Lions at age 9.  This is her 7th year with the club and her 1st year playing with the 18U team. She looks forward to sharing her passion for water polo with the new and returning players.

Tedd Nelson – 9U/11U Coach

Tedd has been playing with the Lions since 2017 and this will be his second year coaching. He is so excited to be coaching the 9U and 11Us. He can’t wait to help new and experienced players achieve their goals and show them how fun water polo is.

Moses Peng – 9U/11U Coach

Moses is thrilled to begin coaching for the Coquitlam Lions 9U and 11U age groups. This will be his first-year coaching officially for the Lions for he has been volunteer coaching for Sharks during the summer season. He has a background in summer water polo having played for the Coquitlam Sharks for two years, Coquitlam Lions for one year and is now playing for the Surrey Water Polo team. He is looking forward to teach and share his knowledge with water polo to future athletes!
